Travelers at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) will now enjoy an enhanced passenger experience while journeying through the newly renovated Terminal B. Representatives from the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and American Airlines unveiled the Terminal’s Great Hall at a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 20th.

Massport’s $130 million “Terminal B Optimization Project” sought to consolidate security checkpoints and American Airlines’ gates, which were previously split between two sides of the terminal. The project also significantly enhanced the space with a renovated ticketing area, automated screening lanes, baggage handling upgrades, gate modifications, and new concession options. According to Michael Minerva and Palmina Whelan, of American Airlines, “These upgrades will provide a more modern, enjoyable travel experience for our customers and a better workplace for our 1,700 Boston-based team members.” The overall design included the renovation of 70,000 square feet of existing space and the construction of 75,000 square feet of new space.

Arora was very proud to provide Special Systems/Technology engineering design and construction administration services for Terminal B’s new Digital Passenger Information Program Displays (DPIPs), under AECOM. Arora’s primary work zones included the baggage area, checkpoints, hold room modifications, and connecting corridors, which held:

  • Wayfinding directories
  • Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS)
  • Baggage Information Display Systems (BIDS)
  • Gate Information Display Systems (GIDS)
  • Interactive kiosks/information bars

Congratulations to our clients and partners on completing this significant and exciting terminal enhancement.
