Arora Engineers (Arora) is proud to announce Carol Chen, EIT, LEED AP BD+C, Mechanical Designer, has been recognized as a 2023 20 to Watch: Women in HVAC Winner by Engineered Systems Magazine.

In January 2019, Engineered Systems introduced the winners of its inaugural 20 to Watch: Women in HVAC contest. This year marks the contest’s fifth year and 100th honoree. This year’s winners include women from various levels of the industry — from entry-level novices to those running their own firms and everything in between.

Since joining Arora in March of 2022, Carol has made a tremendous impact on the caliber of Arora’s overall work products and the collaboration of her project teams. She received her LEED Building Design & Construction (BD+C) Accreditation from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) in 2019 and last year earned her NY Engineer-in-Training certification.

In alignment with her craving for a good challenge, Carol has taken responsibility for several projects seeking LEED certification since joining Arora. She has helped the firm to explore several energy modeling software packages, such as HAP and eQUEST, among several others, to help our clients understand the projected and real-time energy use of the HVAC systems within their facilities. Her entire career has been spent helping clients across industries to not only start their projects off on the right foot by prioritizing LEED standards and credits from the very beginning, but by remaining flexible when clients request LEED certification later on in her projects and helping the teams she collaborates on to run energy modeling analyses to squeeze out those extra few points needed to bring their project to the next level of LEED certification.

“The most rewarding aspect of my career is to see my completed projects in use. I enjoy walking through the finished space to see if I did a good job and identifying what I could have done better,” says Carol. “I feel fortunate that my work allows me to contribute to the betterment of my home in a meaningful manner.”

Carol absolutely embodies the spirit of Engineered Systems 20 to Watch due to her excellence in her field at such a young age as well as her drive to continuously grow her technical acumen not only in HVAC, but in the other disciplines her work effects. We are proud of her work thus far and excited to watch her grow in her role here at Arora and in the industry overall. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement, Carol!
