Employee Spotlight: Alex Alqaq, PE, ICC, LEED AP, Senior Project Engineer

1. How did you come to do what you do? Was this a lifelong goal?
I always wanted to be a pilot. However, circumstances at the time prevented that from happening. I decided to become a Mechanical Engineer and work in Aerospace Engineering. Life goes on in a separate path, and I’m now a Senior Project Engineer.

2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the fact that I can “see” my work in reality. By that, I mean, the transformation from a design on paper to a school, library, high-rise building, Airport Terminal, etc.

3. What motivates you?
My main motivation is my family especially my two kids. In addition, I always do challenge myself to do better and improve constantly.

4. What makes you unique and different?
I have a unique combination of experiences including HVAC Systems Design, Peer Review and Commissioning. This helps me understand the whole process from designing a project till the equipment is up and running and ready for occupancy. It adds value to any project design in detecting issues and problems early in the process before becoming costly.

5. What are your favorite types of projects to work on?
Mainly the challenging ones including Airport Terminals, high-rise buildings, etc. But I also like to investigate issues and problems in existing buildings and facilities to provide solutions.

6. What are your future career goals?
The ultimate goal is to be a “Master Engineer” who is knowledgeable in all trades (Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Protection, etc.), provides guidance and education to young engineers and be a valuable asset to any Design Team.
