Employee Spotlight: Leanna Smith, Project Coordinator

  • Employee Spotlight Leanna Smith

1. How did you come to do what you do?
My educational background is in English, journalism, and public policy, and I have professional experience in marketing and multimedia journalism. I ended up working at Arora because I enjoy being able to see how my work contributes to my community. In my previous role as a journalist, I strengthened my community through local reporting. Now, my work as a Project Coordinator supports projects that improve infrastructure on both a local and national scale.

2. What are your favorite types of projects to work on?
I enjoy working on projects related to transportation. Some of my earliest memories are of trips to the airport with my family — I was always thrilled if there was a moving walkway in our terminal. While studying Public Policy at the University of Delaware, I gained a greater appreciation for and interest in public transportation. Throughout my time at Arora, it has been rewarding to learn more about different facets of the transportation industry.

3. What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
I have learned, in my career and in my personal life, that it is important to remain curious. Not only does a sense of curiosity keep life interesting, but it also helps me work more efficiently and solve problems effectively. I always aim to understand the “why” behind any task or process.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at Arora?
I really enjoy the collaborative spirit at Arora. As a Project Coordinator, I often communicate with employees in different departments, and I am always appreciative when people take the time to share their knowledge with me.

5. Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?
I am a bit of a serial-hobbyist, so I often spend my free time working on creative projects and learning new crafts. Some recent favorites include knitting, painting, and printmaking. I also enjoy reading and listening to audiobooks. My favorite genre is non-fiction, but I love receiving any book recommendations!
