Employee Spotlight: Walter Subers, Jr., Sr. Mechanical Designer

  • Employee Spotlight Walter Subers

1. How did you come to do what you do?
I guess you can say it runs in the family. My father was an engineer, and I began working with him during the summers when I was in 8th grade. I continued to work with him in the summer throughout high school and college. I was always around the MEP field, so it seemed only natural to go into that field once I graduated. The more I learned about mechanical and plumbing systems, the more I grew to enjoy the work.

2. What are your favorite types of projects to work on?
My favorite types of projects to work on are educational facilities. I spent my first 13 years in the field designing K-12 facilities and I have found that I really enjoy designing schools. I married a teacher, so I used my inside information of what teachers are looking for to improve my designs. In general, I enjoy the challenges of each job I have come across.

3. What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
The best career lesson I have learned so far is that in this field you never stop learning. The field, including its codes and technologies, are always changing.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at Arora?
What I have enjoyed the most is broadening the types of projects I have gotten to work on. Arora has given me the opportunity to find my next favorite type of project. I have enjoyed infrastructure design since I have been here and look forward to continuing my experience.

5. Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?
Outside of work, I really enjoy watching Philadelphia sports. I have a lot of hobbies that keep me busy. Most of all, I enjoy being the father of my two beautiful little girls! It has been a blast watching them grow up.
