Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Concourse D Widening
Arora Engineers (Arora) was recently featured in an article by Airport Improvement entitled “Atlanta Int’l Combines Modular and Traditional Build Methods for Concourse D Expansion.” Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), serving over 100 million passengers annually, is a vital component of the global aviation network. Minimizing operational disruptions is critical to all airport renovations and expansions. Concourse D, over 40 years old and the narrowest concourse at ATL, was identified for improvements to meet current and future demands. Arora Engineers (Arora) provided the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation professional Airside Electrical, Security, and ICT services. Our team was proud to work in collaboration with the Civil, MEP, IT, Architectural, and Structural teams at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, home to the largest single airline hubbing operation in the world. Specifically, Arora provided services widening Concourse D and 39 gate locations.
The current expansion, set to finish by 2029, aims to double holdroom size, widen the main corridor, increase ceiling heights, increase restroom sizes, and add new building systems. These changes will enhance the space with more ambient light through additional glass. The updated concourse will have 34 aircraft positions, exclusively for Group III aircraft, improving overall capacity despite reducing the total number of gates. The project, estimated to cost $1.4 billion, is driven by innovation and creativity to significantly improve the passenger experience by providing more space and accessible facilities.
