The Martin Luther King Older Adult Center
Arora Engineers, Inc. (Arora) contributed their Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing engineering and design services to the development of a new, 10,000 square foot senior citizens center in North Central Philadelphia. The center was funded by the City of Philadelphia, Department of Recreation, and the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority (PRA) managed the construction and development of the project.
SCOPE OF SERVICES INCLUDED:
Arora provided design and construction administration services for the building’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The building and its systems were designed with sustainability in mind and to meet LEED Silver Certification standards. These sustainable systems include:
- High efficiency LED lighting.
- An open protocol, web-based building automation system, which allows the City to continually monitor energy use.
- An energy efficient, variable air volume HVAC system, with full economizer capability, demand control ventilation, supply air temperature reset.
The new center features classrooms for art, computer lab, an auditorium with audio visual equipment, commercial kitchen, fitness room, and a billiards room for older adult residents in the neighborhood.
