Mann Older Adult Center & Rivera Recreation Center
Arora Engineers (Arora) provided engineering and design services for the complete rehabilitation and site improvements to the Mann Older Adult Center and Rivera Recreation Center project, which was constructed in two phases. During the first phase a new playground, spray ground and basketball court were constructed on the north side of the site.
The second phase included exterior envelope improvements and the gut-rehabilitation of the 38,000 SF building’s three primary levels. The new interior design reflected a complete change from existing, relocating the two primary users within the building. An elevator was included. Athletic fields were reconstructed, and their lighting improved. The project was LEED certified Silver.
SCOPE OF SERVICES INCLUDED:
Arora provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, and special systems engineering to address the changes in building design, room functions, and their new locations, and athletic field improvements.
The primary HVAC system was an energy efficient VRF installation. At the city’s request, a traditional gas-fired boiler and baseboard system were also provided as a back-up. Other improvements included new fire protection and fire alarm systems; a new three-phase electric service; interior and exterior lighting and power distribution; CCTV and access control; water and power to an exterior garden and out-building; a new plumbing system from the existing service to the fixtures; and ADA compliance throughout. Special attention was paid to the boxing/karate program, performance area, ceramics and crafts, after-school camp, computer, and training areas.
