Arora Engineers (Arora), serving as a subconsultant to Gresham Smith, provided engineering services for various upgrades and renovations to the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)’s existing terminal Concourse B along with new terminal Concourse A. The key goals of this project were to expand the existing holdroom capacity, expand and increase concessions areas, improve efficiency of the arrival/departure gate areas, install an additional ingress/egress elevator system, evaluate and upgrade power and utilities, and construct a new, 75,300SF concourse with 5 new hold rooms containing 970 seats accommodating five additional gates with four security-checkpoint lanes, new concessions, and passenger amenities.

“SRQ has seen an unprecedented increase in passenger traffic and demand, growing from 6 airlines and 12 nonstop destinations to 11 airlines serving 55 nonstop destinations, over the last 5 years. This new facility will ease crowding and allow for future expansion of airlines and destinations” said Rick Piccolo, President, CEO.

Terminal Concourse Expansion project involved the design of a new, 5-position Ground Boarding Facility (GBF) and all associated work as well as the realignment of existing Concourse B holdroom ares, for additional concessions and holdroom space. Together, these projects aim to position SRQ to serve up to 7 million passengers annually in the coming years.

The new, 1-story GBF with five aircraft gate positions connects to the east end of the Ticket Wing of the airport and the facility includes independent SSCP and associated TSA support spaces, ground boarding holdrooms, passenger amenities such as concessions and restrooms (both pre and post security), support spaces, site utility relocation, as well as MEP/CEP improvements and expansions.
