Mastbaum High School Standpipe Upgrade

Arora provided fire protection design and construction administration for the standpipe system upgrade at Mastbaum High School in Philadelphia.

The school was built in 1927 and employed a dry standpipe system that did not meet current codes. Arora provided design for converting the previous system into a manual wet standpipe system.

The scope of work included installation of a new manual wet standpipe system and the design of a heat trace system to keep pipes from freezing. Arora also provided connection of the standpipe system to the water supply, new fire department connection to accommodate additional water load, installation of new electronic monitoring devices and new fire-rated doors, plus additional signage in sections of the building where signage was insufficient.
