Staff from Arora were on hand to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony honoring the grand opening of the new Martin Luther King Older Adult Center in North Philadelphia on April 25, 2017. The new $4.3 million, 10,000 SF center features an auditorium, commercial kitchen, fitness room, computer lab, art classroom, billiards room, and space for public events.

The project was designed by SMP Architects. Arora provided design and construction administration services for the building’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The building’s energy efficient HVAC system and lighting was highlighted at the ceremony.

“The center will provide a clean and modern facility for neighborhood residents to gather, learn, and grow together,” said James Burris, PE, Vice President and Operations Manager at Arora. “It’s an honor to see our work having an immediate and positive impact on the community.”

The new center was made possible through the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, and the Office of Council President Darrell Clarke, whose 5th district includes the site. The Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority managed the construction and development of the project.
