Silicon Valley Donor, Industry Firms and Local Children’s Museum Create New Play Area at San Jose Int’l
Arora Engineers, Inc. (Arora) was included in the March 2022 issue of Airport Improvement Magazine in an article entitled, “Silicon Valley Donor, Industry Firms and Local Children’s Museum Create New Play Area at San Jose Int’l.” The article discusses the new Zoom Zone Children’s Play area which recently opened at San Jose International Airport.
This $1.2 million indoor play area helps young passengers burn physical and mental energy before boarding their flights. The new zoom zone also provides parents with place & opportunity to rest. Arora, working as a subconsultant to the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, provided Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing, Fire Life Safety and Special Systems engineering services for this project.
Arora was one of more than a dozen subcontractors that donated or discounted their services and materials. The new space is a brightly colored, interactive play space named “Zoom Zone,” after the headline sponsor Zoom Video Communications, Inc. The space was designed to simultaneously engage the motor skills and cognitive skills of children under the age of 8. Prior to construction, the area included two separate rooms, which were then reconfigured into one larger space with a small electrical room.
.
Featured exhibits in the play area include a pin screen, which is a signature museum feature that allows children to create three-dimensional works of art by pushing on plastic pins, an alphabet airplane, a bird climber which gives the children a 360-degree perspective of flight by climbing on top of a bright blue bird, crawling underneath its wings, and sliding down its tail feathers, as well as a zoom plane where kids can role-play in the cockpit of a sturdy walk-in biplane.
