DTW Interactive Digital Signage featured in Airport Improvement magazine

Arora is featured in the March/April 2016 issue of Airport Improvement Magazine highlighting the first phase of the firm’s interactive digital signage project at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). The piece features interviews with Arora’s Jason Shevrin, PE, Vice President and Special Systems Practice Leader and President & CEO, Manik Arora, PE.

In “Detroit Metro Rolls Out High-Tech Digital Directories,” the publication details how DTW traded their outmoded paper directories for strategically-located digital displays in the McNamara Terminal. The project’s centerpiece, a 98″ display with integrated barcode scanner, is the world’s largest wayfinding display featuring a 2D scanner. Scanning a boarding pass immediately shows passengers the best route and travel time to their gate. 84″ ultra-high definition 4K monitors were used for the remaining displays.

The article also details the comprehensive process of research, analysis, and planning that was undertaken to ensure the new directories would provide the right information, at the right time, at the right location to improve the passenger experience for the traveling public. DTW’s management is also benefitting from an improved wayfinding experience that allows directory changes to be made once and pushed out to all of the displays.

As General Contractor and Prime Consultant, Arora’s responsibility on the project includes design, construction, operational support, and ongoing maintenance through the firm’s facilities maintenance subsidiary, Arora Systems Group. DTW will replace paper directories in the North Terminal and introduce interactive kiosks in both the North and McNamara Terminals in subsequent phases of the project.

The full article can be read in the March/April edition of Airport Improvement Magazine.
