Employee Spotlight: Lisa Shubrook- Project Control Specialist

  • Employee Spotlight Lisa Shubrook

1. How did you come to do what you do?
I decided to be a “secretary” way back in high school. Although my job is no longer that of what a secretary meant back then, all my experiences during my career allowed me to grow and evolve. When I found Arora Engineers, I applied for the job as Assistant to the Chadds Ford office. This is where I encountered my first PIF (Project Information Form). With lots of support and training, I learned enough about setting-up projects and Vision (our computer system) to move into a brand-new position. Now I work directly for the Accounting Team, as well as supporting the entire company for new projects, training others, billing reports, and offering support for Arora to continually grow and succeed.

2. What are your favorite types of projects to work on?
My favorite projects are those where I learn something new. Whether it is a new client we are working with for the first time, or one we have worked with for a long time, coming across something new makes the job more interesting.

3. What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Many years ago, I supported a man who told me that every person in the company is an important spoke in the wheel that makes our company successful. Each position is as important as the next one. There are days I need to remind myself of this fact, but it is true. From the Marketing Department who processes proposals, tracks opportunities and prepares for trade shows; to the HR staff that bring us the talent we need to be successful; to the Management team who deal directly with the clients and subconsultants; to the production staff who are doing the drawings and dealing with the clients on-site; to the Administration members who support and handle the day to day business of each location, and finally to the Accounting Staff who processes everything from Payroll to invoices and payments that our company needs to survive. We all work to bring in work and put out an excellent product. What we each do matters.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at Arora?
I was incredibly happy to find Arora because they were a small family-run business. Now I am excited to be a part of a company that is growing and changing into an organization that works on National and International projects. I look forward to seeing what else Arora will achieve in the future. Oh, and I also love the fact that the Corporate Office is only five miles from my home!

5. Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?
Outside of work, I love doing crafts. Scrapbooking and jewelry making are two of my hobbies. I also love to travel with my sister. But most of all, I just like being at home watching a good movie or TV show with my two cats.
