Employee Spotlight: Vince De Meis, PE, PMP, Director, Middle States

Today’s Employee Spotlight features Vince De Meis, PE, PMP, Director of the Middle States region which includes Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. Vince originally started as an electrical designer at Arora Engineers, Inc. (Arora) after graduating from Widener University. Vince is responsible for the day-to-day management of our headquarters’ design team in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, operational oversight of all regional projects, and coordination with other Arora offices across the United States. 1. How did you come to do what you do? Was this a lifelong goal?
Growing up, I was interested in science and math at a young age. When it came time to choose a undergraduate major, I decided on Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, I had no idea the consulting design and engineering industry existed. After seeing the first project constructed in accordance with the two-dimensional design drawings I created, I was hooked.

2. What do you enjoy most about your job? What motivates you?
I enjoy the collaboration, communication, and teamwork required in order to complete tasks and projects. Communication has become even more critical while team members and clients have been working mostly remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I am motivated by overcoming obstacles, being part of a project team that delivers challenging projects, and helping individuals grow professionally and personally.

3. What makes you unique and different?
I have an entrepreneurial mindset. Professionally, I previously decided to seek working for a startup company to put myself in a challenging role which allowed me to grow. Personally, I’ve created a Limited Liability Company for management of rental properties.

4. What are your favorite types of projects to work on?
I really enjoy working on all projects from quick schedules where the deadline is in a couple of days, to the multi-year programs. The variety of projects types is one of the reasons why Arora Engineers, Inc. is a great place to work. I enjoy helping clients deliver all projects from planning through completion.

5. What are your future career goals?
I believe continuous improvement and continuing education are critical for success. Some near-term goals of mine are to pursue opportunities which will allow me to become a better leader and public speaker.
