Remembering 9/11 on Patriot Day: The Fluor Field Stair Climb
Honoring the Fallen at Fluor Field
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Fluor Field was a powerful tribute to the courage and sacrifice of September 11, 2001. Participants climbed 110 stories to honor the 343 firefighters and all lives lost that day.
Among them was Matt Baker, GISP, GIS Specialist, who completed the climb with his daughter as she begins her journey into the fire service. Each participant carried a badge with the name of a fallen FDNY firefighter. Before starting, participants rang the bell and spoke their name aloud, a solemn reminder of the lives behind the numbers.
During the climb, recordings from inside the towers on 9/11 were played, offering a powerful reminder of what first responders faced that day. A special honor was also given to the daughter of a fallen firefighter, highlighting the personal and lasting impact of that day.
Matt stated, “The experience was deeply meaningful. It was a chance to honor the fallen, connect with others in the fire service community, and take part in ensuring the memory of 9/11 endures for future generations.“
