Peter Driscoll, PE is Installed as the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Philadelphia Chapter President

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Philadelphia Chapter held The Philaments 2019 Awards & Officer Installation Dinner on June 6th at the Ballroom at the Ben. Peter Driscoll, PE, a Senior Electrical Engineer in our Chadds Ford office, was installed as the Philadelphia Chapter President for the 2019-2020 program year.

The IES Philadelphia chapter is “a not-for-profit technical society whose purpose is to advance lighting knowledge and disseminate information for the improvement of the lighted environment to benefit society.” The evening included a cocktail hour reception, full dinner, the installation of officers for the 2019-2020 program year, as well as the presentation of awards for the Design with Light (DWL) student competition and the IES Illumination Awards.

Design with Light (DWL)

DWL is an annual student lighting design competition which seeks to educate students and make them aware of the lighting design profession. The students from accredited colleges and universities with a passion for lighting design are challenged to develop an original architectural lighting design or create a new luminaire.

IES Illumination Awards

The Illumination Awards recognize professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design. Categories include:

• The Lighting Control Innovation Award – “Designs that exemplify the effective use of lighting controls in nonresidential applications.”
• The Edwin F. Guth Memorial Award for Interior Lighting Design – “Honors the memory of Edwin F. Guth, who founded the St. Louis Brass Co. in 1902.”
• The Outdoor Lighting Design Award – “Recognizes excellence in lighting design and application in all aspects of exterior lighting.”
• The Energy and Environmental Design Award – “Recognizes quality lighting installations in commercial and industrial buildings that incorporate advanced energy-saving strategies and environmentally responsible solutions into the overall design.”
