Rethinking Infrastructure: Reduce and Recycle

We are very excited by the response to our initiative, 2020: Rethinking Infrastructure! The goal of this campaign is to work together as a team to reinforce Arora’s mission statement, Improving the Quality of Life by Rethinking Infrastructure. Each month we are prompting employees to explore two words that we believe connect our mission, vision, and core values. We then have a call to action where employees send us pictures, videos, and stories that we will anonymously compile and promote to illustrate how we are living our values.

For May, we contemplated Reduce and Recycle.

  • Reduce: According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “The most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place.” Creating a new product takes a great deal of energy and materials, as raw materials must be extracted, the product must be created, and then it must be transported for sale. Therefore, it can be much more efficient and beneficial if we start our conservational efforts by reducing the number of items we are using and disposing of in the first place.
  • Recycle: Recycling focuses on collecting and processing recyclable materials that can be turned into new products, rather than being thrown out as trash. This process can significantly decrease the amount of waste that is sent to landfills and incinerators, as well as conserve natural resources and save energy. This can also mean personally recycling things for alternate uses vs. throwing them away.

We received some fantastic responses, as seen in the collage above! Next up for June, Rebuild and Repair.
