Team Arora / Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Pulls Airplane for the Special Olympics

  • Plane Pull

A team of Arora employees, family, and friends attended the Dulles Day Festival & Plane Pull that took place on September 19, 2015 at Washington Dulles International Airport. The Plane Pull is an annual event that raises money for the Special Olympics Virginia. All proceeds go to support the year-round training and athletic competitions for the over 11,000 athletes that participate in the Special Olympics. Teams of 25 compete to see who can pull either an Airbus A320 or Boeing 757 12ft the fastest. It is like a tug-of-war, but instead of pulling against another team, the competition is an airplane!

In addition to the Plane Pull, attendees had the opportunity to tour unique aircraft including a variety of WWII planes, different helicopters, and other jet craft. Visitors were invited on board the aircraft to view the cockpit and pilots were on hand to answer any questions.

Another one of the day’s events included a 5K/10K run on the runway at Dulles. Participants in the races had the opportunity to take a view of the airport that most people don’t get to see, jogging along the runway by planes and past the landing strip. Those who took part in the 10K got to run the entire length of the runway.

Jocelyn Bernhardt, Creative Director + Client Manager for Arora, attended with her family and had this to say, “It was a great day to spend with friends and family, especially because they were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the airport, which helped them to see why we are so passionate about aviation.”
